Nicki, a Mental Health Clinician (and Liberty Doll from Facebook) and Jim, a psychiatrist (with no alter ego on Facebook) have both noticed that their pro-liberty ideals at times put them at odds with their coworkers, or the functioning of their field in general AND that their working in mental health also tends to put them at odds with others in the liberty movement. They will talk about how libertarian ideals affect working in the mental health field today, including insights and advantages that their ideals provide them, how they can facilitate their ideals through their jobs, and how they sometimes have to compromise their ideals as part of their jobs, or even how their ideals may affect their job security. They will also talk about how mental health care might be provided in a voluntary society, for various problems and in various patient populations. They hope to convince others that there is no reason for mental health professionals and individuals within the liberty movement to be natural enemies. We are not the thought police. We are not tranquilizing children so that they will sit still in the government schools. We also acknowledge that we are not necessarily speaking for all of our colleagues in those regards. Questions and discussion from the audience is encouraged, as long as the NAP/ZAP is adhered to.
